The Chinese Scam

If you haven't seen this one before, just be aware that it's going around, again.  You receive an email like below...

"Dear Sir/Madam,

About the "xxxxxxx". We are the department of Asian Domain Registration Service in China. Here I have something to confirm with you. We formally received an application on August 7th, 2015 that a  company claimed "TangLon Leng Co" were applying to register "xxxxxxx" as their Net Brand and some "xxxxxxx" Asian countries top-level domain names through our firm.

Now we are handling this registration, and after our initial checking, we found the name were similar to your company's, so we need to check with you whether your company has authorized that  company to register these names. Since now the cyber-squatting events and domain name abuse are very serious, in order to avoid such incidents cause unnecessary loss of benefits to your company. So  we need to check with you whether your company has authorized that company to register these names. If you authorized this, we would finish the registration at once. If you did not authorize,  please let us know within 7 workdays, so that we could handle this issue better. After the deadline we will unconditionally finish the registration for "TangLon Leng Co" Looking forward to your  prompt reply.

(It's very urgent, so please transfer this email to your CEO or appropriate person. Thanks a lot.)

This appears is several different forms and they are phishing to sell you additional domain names and ultimately to take over your domain name and the hosting of your website.  The follow up email is...

"Thanks for your confirmation. As soon as receiving the application of "TangLon Leng Co", we checked and found "xxxxxxx" is your company's using name and brand. We are concerned that your brand name might be affected negatively by their applications, this is why we informed you. following Network Brand and domain names are applied by "TangLon Leng Co":
Net Brand: xxxxxxx
Domain Names:
"xxxxxxx.asia
xxxxxxx.in
xxxxxxx.co.in
xxxxxxx.cn
xxxxxxx.cn.com
xxxxxxx.com.cn
xxxxxxx.net.cn
xxxxxxx.org.cn
xxxxxxx.hk
xxxxxxx.com.hk
xxxxxxx.tw
xxxxxxx.com.tw
xxxxxxx.中国
You know that the domain names registration is open in the world, "TangLon Leng Co" also has the right to apply for the available domain names. But you have the preferential rights to register them. We also are not very clear about why the company wants to register these domain names, but according to our work experience, either they just invest these domain names.

At present, we haven't passed their application, we need your opinion. If your company consider these names of importance to your company's business or interest, I can assure you that the best way for you to protect your business is to register these domains under your name, because after you finish the registration, you will become the exclusive owner of them! I would like to inform you the most important point for the domain is the protection rather than usage. Please confirm! We, as the China local registrar, if you need to register those domains, we can help you.

Of course, If you don't want to protect your intellectual property rights, then my suggestion is your company give up these names so that we can finish registering for them as per our duty. Please give me your company's decision as soon as possible in order to handle this issue better.
Have a nice day.

Note the section in red that I have highlighted.  So go ahead, register the domains with them, at whatever price they charge, using a credit card that may then have a lot of extra purchases on it that you didn't know about, as well as sign some ridiculous contract that you can't get out of.  But first, CONTACT ME so I can confirm if it's a scam or not.
